Computerization - which way do I go?
A recent situation with a growing company required three tiers of computer support. Sales needed to be on the road. Engineering support went on the road periodically and a newly added manufacturing location required fast access to huge data files.
Remote access to an in-house server allowed key individuals to continue working from anywhere in the world as long as they had Internet access. A second group, housed in the new facility was provided with virtual machines to access vital information through a secure connection to the main facility. A second group at the new facility needed access to very large documents. A simple solution was set up that allowed the large documents to be made available on local computers with the speed of network delivery without being connected directly to the network.
The final issue was supporting Windows XP and Windows 7 Pro systems using remote or virtual connections on the same network. That proved to be an easy fix.
Virtual connection, online collabration, web video conferncing, document management and access and remote workforce support provides excellent capabilities for a company that is growing very fast.

Networking - cut the cord?
Networking for small businesses shouldn't be complicated. A micro-business had spent almost $100,000 on technology, a large chunk of that was remote networking sold to them as 'cloud computing'. In evaluating their costs and agreements, we found less than half was needed, providers could be eliminated or negotiated for much better terms and they were not in true cloud computing! They are now at a budget that is less than 1/2 of what they were paying and that means more a great deal more working capital.

Cell services - no need for computers?
I can sit in a favorite cafe and be in a video conference sharing documents and much more. I can be on a manufacturing floor discussing the real-time operation of a client's project. The client is in Canada watching their project running while I switch between the back and front cameras on my smart phone. And, because I'm using a third party, the entire meeting is recorded and archived online for either the client or my team of technical people to review.
